The workshop by Ms. Haruko Suzuki
We held the workshop on how to use government statistic by Ms. Haruko Suzuki, former visiting senior researcher, Public Interest Incorporated Foundation, Statistical Information Institute for Consulting and Analysis, February 15, 2020.
She taught practically characteristics of the Japanese statistical organization, e-stat positioning, and also how to utilize e-stat database through e-stat online. We were able to deepen our knowledge of movement to expand use of micro data on government statistics and of international statistics. This workshop was highly suggestive.
[Report] Symposium “Thinking about the work style that connects work and life”

RIWAC’s 11th symposium was held on Dec. 14th. The theme was “Thinking about the work style that connects work and life”. It was successful and meaningful with over one hundred participants.
Part 1: Lectures
“Idea of Life career~in order to connect work and life~” by Ms. Noriko Hiraki, Consultant, IPI Institute for Psychotherapy Integration.
Part 2: Panelist Lectures and General Discussion
“About flexible work style that connects work and life-part time job sharing spreading in German companies” by Prof. Yoko Tanaka, Tsukuba University.
“Issues about personnel management system over flexible work style in Japanese companies” by Ms. Mitsuyo Matsubara, Chief scientist, PwC Consulting LLC.
“Synergetic effect of work and life” by Prof. Yoko Kato, Sugiyama Jogakuen University.
At the end, general discussion with questions from participants was held by the above four
speakers and RIWAC Director Machiko Osawa.

We held the study session by Prof. Yoko Tanaka, Tsukuba University. She delivered that the work style (especially working hours) in Germany had been made more flexible through the measures after the Lehman shock and that as a result Germany checked the increase of non-regular employment. She also mentioned the treatment of part time job in Germany was different from that of Japan, and gave us the examples from interview survey that
in Germany the managers tended to be part time job.
【Report】The 5th “Women-only Gathering: Empowerment Center × Research Institute for Women and Careers”
The 5th “women-only gathering” jointly sponsored by Tokyo Woman’s Christian University Empowerment Center and Research Institute for Women and Careers was held from 7 p.m. on July 12, 2019, at Omotesando Nasic Hall.
During the first session, Ms. Sonoko Takahashi delivered a talk on “Challenge to new service through Gran Class hospitality- ”. She graduated from Tokyo Women’s University and at first she had worked at All Nipon Airways Co., Ltd as a cabin attendant. She left the company due to her husband transfer, and she experienced the different cultures living in Brasil and New York. Through the experience she acquired hospitality abroad, and now is in charge of Gran Class service and cabin attendant as an executive officer of Nippon Restaurant Enterprise Co.,Ltd.
During the second session, a casual networking meeting was held with beverages and snacks.
The participants were almost 40 people, and they expressed the impression: “It is wonferful to know what alumni are doing well”, “It is very stimulating for us to know the presicous stories of women who are active in various fields, and I’m sure it leads our own growth.”
This gathering started as building a network of the alumni beyond generations and has been gradually established, but unfortunately this gathering is closed for a while.
We hope we could give you a meaningful gathering someday.
